The only turkey neck should be on your turkey: Enter Ultherapy

November 23, 2015

Double chins suck. Especially when you’re at the age when it’s not an issue of “excess fat”  that’s causing the waddle. Its just skin. Too young for a face life (egads!) and too old to blame it on baby fat. Yes, you can Botox the heck out of your neck to soften those strong rubberband, cord-like muscles that pull and look like tree trunks under the skin – but when it’s just skin – you can’t diet or exercise the turkey neck away. I’m in exactly that place. I have this tiny little under the chin poof that makes me crazy. It’s also the biggest give away that I’m not in my 30’s anymore. Ok, there a few other things but you can’t see them. Wink.

Historically in the world of cosmetic surgery, the only option to eliminate submental fat was surgery.

Not anymore.
Ultherapy is the only FDA cleared procedure used to lift skin in this difficult area. It utilizes the energy of ultrasound to stimulate deep structural support within the layers of the skin without disturbing the surface of the skin.

Ultherapy is very much like ultrasound imaging you get when you are pregnant – a hand piece is first placed on your skin, producing an image of the tissue beneath it. This allows our practitioners to see where they will treat your skin.

Except with Ultherapy, this piece is used to deliver deposits of focused ultrasonic energy at the precise depth below the skin and revitalize the foundational layer of your skin typically addressed in a facelift.

I am not going to lie – it’s not super comfy 🙂 You will for sure need a muscle relaxant and pain killer to take the edge off. I have a massive pain threshold and I still stopped for a pain killer midway through – why be a hero, right? The good news is, I had an incredible nurse Cris at the esteemed office of Dr. Ava Shambam perform my procedure. I was so entranced by all her medical degrees that I just kept asking to tell me more about her education so I could continue to be blown away by her, and not think about the zaps!

Within 45 minutes we were done with my entire lower face and jowls. “We’re done?!”

“Yes, done!” Cris said.

And this happy camper went on home – zero downtime, no redness, nothing. I would say I was slightly sore for about a week. But not even Advil worthy sore. Extremely mild and it didn’t really cross my mind unless I pushed on my cheek.

Results: Here’s the fun part – I get to see them slowly evolve over the next months (beauty doesn’t happen over night, people!) In around 6 months is when the fruits of Ulthera come to fruition. It’s a natural rejuvenation from the inside out, bypassing the surface of the skin by specifically targeting deep, structural skin tissues where collagen is collected. What happens is your body’s natural regenerative response to this energy, is to recondition and gently lift the loose skin by stimulating the growth of new, fresh collagen.

I highly recommend seeing Cris for a consultation. There is nothing to lose with Ulthera. It’s the perfect “tweener” procedure. Prices vary and you will be quoted depending on the exact parts of your face that need attention. I will follow up with you in a few months and let you know how I look!
