Style insiders know Meche salon is one of the uber-coolest salons in Los Angeles. Just walking through the front door of the elite full-service salon in the heart of Beverly Hills makes you feel like you are part of something cool and happening, because, well, you are. It would be of no surprise at all if you bumped into the likes of Gwenyth Paltrow, Lily Aldridge, Jennifer Lopez or Jennifer Garner as the salon’s owners, Tracey Cunningham and Neil Weisberg, have quite the celebrity following when it comes to color. Meche has a bit of a Studio 54 following these days — and after experiencing it for the first time, I can see why.
I popped into the Meche to get a cut with Alissa Tietgen Smith — not an easy feat as Alissa is THE stylist everyone’s flocking to. It’s no wonder. Alissa is a noted bangs, BOB and LOB expert with a very approachable, cool vibe and personality (Me — “I want to be your friend!!!” Her — “Great! Let’s do it!!”)
When it comes to hair, Alissa knows her business — she got her start at Sally Hershberger at John Freida, worked at Neil George for seven years before Meche opened in 2012. There’s something about the way Alissa intuitively dry cuts giving the hair a great balance of texture and edge that is very on-trend but never trendy. I walked in with a mom-BOB and walked out with a sexy, forward “MILF”, as Alissa joked before sending me home with a ton of real-world styling tips and tricks. She’s one of the best. Trust me.
I just love making new friends.
