August 27, 2017

You’ve been to Rite Aid and Target and it’s clear that…HALLOWEEN is upon us.

Sorry, there is only so many healthy, sugar free stories I can cover. A girl needs to lighten up sometimes and by that I mean…burning calories and getting your heart rate up the easy way. Simply sweat your ass off scaring the crap out of yourself here!

Ten Thirty One Productions (TTO) is excited to announce the highly anticipated return of the most popular Halloween attraction in the country, the Los Angeles Haunted Hayride coming September 29th to Griffith Park with limited pre-sale tickets available now.

TTO will allow guests to come face-to-face with their biggest, darkest fears for the scariest Halloween immersion experience on the West Coast.

I for one, love scary shit! And I have always wanted to check this out for some light (and dark!) fun. I hear this year they’ve pulled out all the stops.

Los Angeles Haunted Hayride (@LAHauntedHayride) returns with the most thrilling ride yet as guests become completely absorbed within the experience. Clown will feature four zones guaranteed to make your skin crawl: Haunted Hayride, House Of Shadows, Trick Or Treat, and Purgatory. Take a seat on our Haunted Hayride as we slither through the genuinely haunted woods of Griffith Park’s Old Zoo. Meet a legion of vicious clowns waiting with more psychopathic fun than any wagon can handle. And if you think you know clowns…you don’t know our clowns. The evolution of demonic apparitions that live within these trees have created a darkness that will leave with you and infiltrate your dreams. Clown – will literally have you on the edge of your seat and then forced out of those seats as you become immersed within your darkest fears escaping on foot to experience the winding, weaving Corn Maze smack dab in the middle of the ride!

“Hayride fans have been asking us to bring back the Clown Tent Finale for years.  We just couldn’t escape it. Once we started we got so sucked into this rabbit hole of incredible clown content that we couldn’t just do one finale scene.  So we decided to take the number one fan favorite experience of our entire history and make it the entire 30 acre attraction. I don’t think I’ve been this excited for the hayride since year one ” explains TTO CEO and Haunted Hayride Founder and author of the upcoming book “READY FIRE AIM: How I Turned a Hobby into an Empire”, Melissa Carbone (@MelCarbs).

Legendary fan favorite scare zone, House of Shadows, will leave you completely blinded in total darkness, as the shadows of the most vicious, ugliest and depraved souls chase you through the re-imagined, colossally possessed demonic house – Southern California’s only true dark maze! At Trick Or Treat, it’s Halloween every night. Go get candy from strangers! The interactive neighborhood has doubled in size and has tripled the mischief. The suburb of Hell welcomes trick-or-treaters to go door to door and come face to face with its freakish occupants. You’ve always known your neighbors were a little off, so tonight let’s pull back the curtain. “Ding Dong!”

An ALL NEW layout may just make Purgatory the best part of the entire attraction. The charm and magic of our old world ‘haunted village’ invokes the nostalgia of Halloweens past; smell the freshly cut hay, feel the chill of cold fog, and see the deep, rich orange glow of jack o’ lanterns as you pass through our gates. Become a part of the show at Theatre Macabre, ride the Scary-Go-Round, enjoy food & drink at the Grub Shack, shop in the Bootique, visit a psychic, and get ready to see Purgatory like you’ve never seen it before from a seat around our 20-foot Living Bonfire that will send your jaws to the ground. Get ready for this never before seen spectacle.

If you’ve ever thought about going to Los Angeles Haunted Hayride, this is the year to do it.

More Summer Fun For Kids: ‘Titanic in Photographs’, –The Exhibition Now Open at The Queen Mary

August 3, 2017

My son is obsessed with all things Titanic – so when I learned about this must-see” showcase, ‘Titanic in Photographs, –The Exhibition,’  now on display at the Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA – I lost my mind. We are so sick of camp, beaches, trolling parks and shlepping around the Grove. This is the perfect little day trip! Perfect fun for the whole family!

Images & Artifacts from a Legend

Almost 100 period photographs are displayed, guiding the visitor through the immersive story of Titanic; from conception to her tragic demise. The exhibit offers a comprehensive, educational view of one of the most memorable moments in history; a story that continues to captivate the public’s imagination over 100 years later.

The synergy between Titanic and the Queen Mary is obvious; the latter being the most famous surviving ocean liner in history and built for the Cunard/White Star Line after their merger in 1934. Queen Mary would have been Titanic’s successor, as indeed she was for her near-identical twin sister ship, Olympic. RMS Titanic continues to be one of the most popular culture topics in the world.  The touring Titanic exhibit feels at home on the Queen Mary whose legacy, historical worth and cultural influences continue to impress over a million on-board visitors each year.

The exhibit brings the photographs to life with a world-class display! Based on the best-selling book of the same name by world-renowned maritime historians, Daniel Klistorner & Steve Hall, ‘Titanic in Photographs – The Exhibition’ takes the visitor on a journey back in time, through the eyes of those who were there, including Harland & Wolff’s professional photographer, Robert Welch, period press photographers & passengers on board Titanic and the rescue ship, Carpathia.

The photographs are just part of this riveting exhibition. Alongside many of the images are display cabinets, containing over 150 genuine artefacts from Titanic, her identical twin sister, Olympic and even the rescue ship, Carpathia. These rare and often unique items bring the photographs to life, transporting the visitor back in time and placing them in the picture.

This visual journey takes you through the building process of the ill-fated ship, before transporting you onto the decks and into many of the sumptuous staterooms; the Smoking Room, Turkish Bath & Swimming Pool, the breath-taking Grand Staircase, the luxurious 1st Class Lounge with its magnificent cartel clock and much, much more.

One of the highlights of the exhibition is the only surviving White Star Line lifeboat; virtually identical to those used by all too few of Titanic’s passengers, as they waited to be rescued from the icy waters of the North Atlantic after Titanic foundered.

These rare, stunning artefacts include gilt & crystal light fittings, furniture, china, silverware, crystal and even the very chairs used by passengers!

Relive the emotion of the disaster as you view personal items, such as stationery from Titanic’s Reading & Writing Room, sent home as a souvenir by one of the victims of the sinking, mailed at the ship’s last port of call; Queenstown. A railway ticket, purchased on board Titanic from the Purser’s Office by a 3rd class passenger, for his return journey that was never to take place

Although the emphasis of the exhibition is based around the beauty, opulence & splendour of this truly magnificent ship, the tragedy itself is comprehensively covered with a poignant display, containing lifeboat plaques, unique original period photographs taken on board the rescue ship Carpathia, a passenger list, memorial postcards and even a gold pocket watch, dropped by a 1st class passenger as he rushed to secure a place in one of the last lifeboats to leave the sinking ship, only to be picked up by one of Titanic’s crew members.

As Titanic slowly slipped beneath the waves, bandleader Wallace Hartley & his fellow musicians heroically played on until the final moments. View some the actual sheet music he carried with him that night, tragically recovered still with him some 10 days later

As the visitor leaves this exhibition, a Memorial Wall lists the crew & passengers of Titanic; driving home the cold truth of just how many survived & perished on that fateful night of 15th April 1912.

Exhibit is now open daily from 11AM-6PM.  General Admission Pricing: $27/Adult, $17.50/Child (4-11).

Laura Crago will be instructing the class. Sarah and Laura met in 2015 when Laura was embarking on a journey to bike cross-country from LA to NYC and Sarah was about to climb the Half Dome in Yosemite. They found inspiration and motivation through each other’s stories and aspire to trek Mount Kilimanjaro together. But in the meantime, they’re joining forces to raise awareness for Sarah’s charity, SheLift.

Sarah gained her notoriety on ABC’s The Bachelor and Bachelor in Paradise for being the first contestant with a physical disability. Sarah was born with Amniotic Band Syndrome, but it hasn’t stopped her from climbing mountains, skiing double black diamonds, and even searching for love on television. SheLift, a 501(c)3 organization, was born from her love for outdoor adventures and the transformative powers of adventure. SheLift encourages girls to improve self-acceptance and confidence through outdoor adventures and body-positive mentorship. SheLift aims to normalize differences while challenging girls’ physical and emotional abilities.
